Cement shingle siding
We wet each shingle, pull its nails and hand it down instead of letting it fall. The pieces are stacked and wrapped in heavy plastic.

Gray cement shingles on an older house can contain asbestos, and so can some older roofing. MDH’s advice is to leave siding in good shape alone. When you are re-siding, building an addition or tearing down, we take the positive siding off in whole pieces where we can and wrap it for disposal.
Minnesota’s July 2021 change ended the exemptions for siding and roofing too, along with flooring and ceilings, in homes of up to four units. Outside work now counts toward the state limits the same way inside work does. Our crews cover Apple Valley, Rosemount and Empire.

Some older roofing can contain asbestos as well. MDH says the use of asbestos in roofing and siding fell fast after the early 1980s, which is why the roof’s age shapes what we sample.
MDH says damaged siding should be repaired carefully and that covering it is sometimes possible, subject to local codes. We go over those options with you before anything is removed.
Heavy plastic goes down along the foundation first. Any chip that breaks off lands on it instead of in the grass or a garden bed, and the plastic is folded up and bagged with the siding.
Exterior jobs depend on the weather and on the trades that follow.
Siding, any older layer underneath and window glazing can each be a different material. We sample whatever the project will touch.
We schedule removal so your siding or framing crew can start once the wall is clear.
The stacks stay wet, wrapped and labeled until they reach a landfill that takes asbestos, and a waste manifest travels with them from your driveway.
